Alberto - Fiberglass Maestro

When the product is ready,
you can smell it
Six years. I make everything fiberglass. From RV’s to armchairs.
A family unit. I’ve known Lorenzo since we were five years old. It’s only recently that I started working with him and the team at Arketipo. The work I do symbolises Arketipo; a different kind of thinking – I was approached to do something no one else was able to, six years later, I’m still doing it.
Time and the weather. It’s my enemy and my friend. Fiberglass is a very sensitive material. It’s something you don’t see in furniture often, if at all, maybe there’s a reason for it. The weather plays a factor, and I’m obsessed with humidity. It can affect the final product in so many ways.
It depends what you are looking for. The product I mentioned before, the one nobody was able to make, has a surface finish that for a fiberglass technician is classified as ‘mistake’. In Lorenzo’s eyes it is a sophisticated aesthetic solution.
With practice. Sometimes also by looking at things differently, like in the example I mentioned before. To have the courage and boldness to change perspective is a gift. It might often lead you to mistakes but when you get it right, that is as close to perfect as I can imagine.
